Garden and barbecue

If you prefer to just relax then there are plenty of areas to do this at Granero del Burro. You can sit outside on the patio by the bread oven (in the sun or shade) or you can have a barbecue on the stone built one next to the patio. Barbecued King Prawns are particularly good! If you want something a bit more exciting then we provide a couple of body boards for you to ride the waves along the coast. There is something for everyone so don't miss out of this great offer.

LD Lines

Norman Voyager

A new ferry service is starting on the 5th January 2014 between Poole in Dorset and Gijón in Asturias. It will be operated by LD Lines. This makes it much easier to bring your car with you when you come to stay at Granero del Burro, the self catering barn in Galicia. Gijón is much closer than Santander, where the Brittany Ferries service docks. Gijón is less than 2 hours away and most of the route is motorway. The prices are very reasonable and almost half the price of Brittany Ferries. The crossing is 25 hours!!

San Lorenzo beach, Gijón

Gijón itself is a great place with lots of interesting things to do and see. The San Lorenzo beach is a great city beach and runs along the full length of the city. Have a look here for more information. The Abba Hotel is a great place to stay if you want to spend a night in the city.

The A8 motorway is nearly finished!!

Puente de los Santos

At long last the A8 motorway along the top of Northern Spain has opened its latest section. This now means that you can get from Asturias airport to the self catering barn, Granero del Burro in just over an hour with the majority of it being on the motorway. Unlike the UK, the motorway here is only 2 lanes wide, but there is virtually no traffic on it. You do not have to factor in traffic jams!!!!

Asturian coast

The motorway itself takes a very scenic route with the sea visible for most of the journey on the one side and the Asturian hills on the other. It passes through rural Asturias and you get a good impression of how people live here, with their big houses and smallholdings with a few animals and big vegetable gardens. You also quickly see why this area is called La Costa Verde (Green Coast) as everything is very green.
