Sunday 10th of June was the day this year that Spain celebrated Corpus Christi with is beautiful flower carpets. Castropol, a small village on the edge of the Eo estuary, is famous for its flower carpets and people travel from all over Spain to see them. You can see last year's Castropol flower carpets here
This year the weather wasn't kind. There had been torrential rain overnight and this was made worse by the very strong wind whistling around the tiny streets. Sadly, this meant that some of the carpets were not laid in the street, and the ones that were, had the flower petals blown off them by the wind. There were frantic attempts to replace them and indeed a little lad was doing his best to keep the petals on the floor by watering them!
Castropol is a beautiful little village sitting on the Eastern shore of the Eo estuary opposite Ribadeo. It has tiny streets lined with whitewashed houses, and a little port area with a couple of nice restaurants and a sailing club. It has lovely views across to Figueras and the port area of Ribadeo and is well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.
